This bill, the Fair Play for Women Act, aims to address inequitable and discriminatory treatment of women and girls in sports in elementary and secondary schools, as well as institutions of higher education. It prohibits intercollegiate athletic associations from discriminating against athletes on the basis of sex, provides a private right of action for violations, and requires expanded reporting and transparency around participation, funding, and other support for women's sports. The bill also mandates training on Title IX rights and obligations for athletic department employees and student-athletes at covered schools and colleges. Additionally, it allows the Department of Education to impose civil penalties on institutions found to be in noncompliance with Title IX.
