This joint resolution permanently designates January 18th as "Alexandra 'Alex' Scott Day" in New Jersey to honor the remarkable life and legacy of Alexandra Scott, a young girl who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma (a type of childhood cancer) at an early age. The resolution highlights Alex's inspiring story of resilience, beginning with her first lemonade stand in 2000, where she raised $2,000 to help doctors continue their research, and continuing through her efforts to support childhood cancer research even while battling her own illness. By the time of her passing in 2004 at age eight, Alex had raised over one million dollars, and her parents subsequently established the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation to continue her mission of funding cancer research, raising public awareness, and supporting families affected by childhood cancer. The resolution requests that the Governor issue an annual proclamation recognizing the day and encourages public officials and citizens to observe it with appropriate activities and programs, with copies of the resolution to be transmitted to the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, thereby ensuring that Alex's courageous and compassionate spirit continues to inspire others.
