This bill requires the Maryland Medical Assistance Program (Medicaid) and certain health insurers, including managed care organizations, to provide coverage and reimbursement for a "special administrative day" at a "special pediatric hospital" that provides non-acute medical, rehabilitation, therapy, and palliative services to individuals under 22 years old or between 2 and 23 years old with co-occurring physical and behavioral health conditions. The bill also prohibits Medicaid, the Maryland Children's Health Program, and the covered health insurers from requiring prior authorization for a transfer to a special pediatric hospital. The provisions of this bill will apply to all relevant policies, contracts, and health benefit plans issued, delivered, or renewed in Maryland on or after January 1, 2025.
