This bill, the Supporting Rural Veterans Access to Healthcare Services Act, proposes to extend and modify the transportation grant program of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Specifically, it expands the eligibility for the grants to include Tribal organizations and Native Hawaiian organizations, in addition to the existing State veterans service agencies and veterans service organizations. The bill also extends the authorization for the program from 2022 to 2028, and changes the funding from a fixed amount of $3 million per year to "such sums as may be necessary" for each fiscal year. The purpose of the program is to provide transportation assistance to help rural veterans access healthcare services.
