This bill expands the fourth-degree assault crime related to health care professionals in Minnesota. It amends the existing law to include not just firefighters and emergency medical personnel, but also other health care professionals, such as physicians and nurses, who can be charged with a felony for assaulting and inflicting demonstrable bodily harm or intentionally throwing or transferring bodily fluids or feces at them while they are performing their duties. The bill specifies that this change will take effect on August 1, 2024, and apply to crimes committed on or after that date.
