This bill requires 9-1-1 call takers and dispatchers to receive standardized training and to be certified in emergency medical dispatch and emergency fire dispatch. The bill provides that, in addition to any other training or certification requirements prescribed by the Office of Emergency Telecommunications Services, each call taker or dispatcher employed by a public safety answering point (PSAP) would be required to be certified through the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch (IAED) in Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) and Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD).
