This bill amends the Public School Code of 1949 to provide for the possession and use of mobile devices by students in public school entities. The key provisions are: (1) students must deposit their mobile devices in a secure location at the start of the school day and retrieve them at the end; (2) this requirement does not apply to students who are members of emergency services, have medical or disability needs, are English language learners, or are on a scheduled lunch period, or if the school entity approves the possession and use of the device; and (3) the school entity must develop policies to implement this section, including a process for students and parents to communicate during the school day.
