This bill would require the California Energy Commission to apply any network roaming standards it adopts only to major electric vehicle (EV) charging network providers, which are defined as those managing at least 100 publicly available EV charging stations in the state. The network roaming standards would require these major providers to accept payment from users of multiple other major EV charging network providers and automakers, simplifying drivers' ability to find and pay for charging. The bill also sets new requirements for payment methods at EV charging stations, such as contactless credit/debit card payment and toll-free phone or SMS options.
