This Concurrent Resolution acknowledges the serious nature of Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infection (PANDAS) and Pediatric Acute-Onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome (PANS), which affect thousands of Idaho children and can cause significant health issues. It directs the Idaho Department of Insurance to work with insurance industry leaders to find ways to ensure that medically necessary Intravenous Immunoglobulin (IVIG) treatment, a recognized treatment for these conditions, is accessible to all Idaho children covered by private insurance, not just those on Medicaid or specific plans that already offer coverage. The resolution also requires the Department of Insurance to gather data on the costs and potential impact of including this benefit in private insurance plans and to report its findings and recommendations to the legislature. Finally, it officially recognizes October 9, 2024, as PANDAS/PANS Awareness Day in Idaho to promote understanding and awareness of these disorders.
