This bill mandates that public transportation employees and certain motorbus operators must complete a one-time training course on how to handle and respond to suspected human trafficking activities, with the training needing to include information on recognizing signs and signals used by victims. The New Jersey Transit Corporation (NJ Transit) will be responsible for developing or approving this training, which can also be provided by approved nonprofit organizations, and will determine which employees and operators are required to take it. Contracts with private motorbus companies for regular route service will also need to include this training requirement, unless waived by NJ Transit if the company already provides equivalent training. The bill also specifies that this training requirement will not apply to existing contracts with private motorbus companies that were in place before the bill's effective date, which is 90 days after enactment.
