This bill requires public school employers and community college districts to provide up to 14 weeks of paid leave for certificated employees, academic employees, and employees in the classified service who are absent due to pregnancy, miscarriage, childbirth, termination of pregnancy, or recovery from those conditions. The paid leave may begin before and continue after childbirth if the employee is actually disabled. The bill also requires that disabilities caused by these conditions be treated as temporary disabilities and prohibits the leave from being deducted from other available leaves. This bill will only become operative if the legislature appropriates funds for its implementation.
