Bill Summary

AN ACT To provide PreCheck to certain severely injured or disabled veterans, and for other purposes.

AI Summary

This bill, known as the Veterans Expedited TSA Screening Safe Travel Act or the VETS Safe Travel Act, aims to provide PreCheck security screening at no cost to certain severely injured or disabled veterans. Specifically, the bill amends existing law to make veterans enrolled in the Department of Veterans Affairs' patient enrollment system and with service-connected disabilities resulting in loss or loss of use of an extremity, paralysis or partial paralysis, or permanent blindness eligible for the PreCheck program if they require the use of a wheelchair, prosthetic limb, or other assistive device. The bill also requires coordination between the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Veterans Affairs to implement the process for providing these benefits to eligible veterans within one year, and to conduct outreach to disabled veterans on relevant TSA programs.
