This bill eliminates the shotgun zone for taking deer during the regular firearms deer season, allowing all legal firearms to be used statewide. It also requires the Commissioner of Natural Resources to report to the legislative committees on the effect of this change on deer hunting and deer populations by December 1, 2027. Additionally, the bill repeals the existing law that established the shotgun use area, where only shotguns loaded with single-slug shells, muzzle-loading long guns, and handguns were previously allowed to be used for deer hunting during the regular firearms season.
