This bill requires health insurance plans in Minnesota to provide coverage for the management and treatment of obesity, including evidence-based interventions such as behavioral, dietary, and physical activity programs, bariatric surgery, and FDA-approved medications. The bill also mandates that the state's medical assistance program (Medicaid) provide coverage for obesity management and treatment in the same manner as required for private health plans. These provisions will take effect on January 1, 2025, and apply to health plans offered, issued, or renewed on or after that date.
