This bill requires rental car companies to provide notice to renters advising them to unpair personal devices from the rented vehicle and delete their personal information from the motor vehicle's computer system upon returning the vehicle. The notice must be posted at the rental car company's return area, and may also be posted on the company's website or in the rental agreement. Rental car companies that violate this requirement are subject to civil penalties of $500 for a first offense and $1,000 for any subsequent offense, enforced by the Director of the Division of Consumer Affairs. The bill also specifies that the act will take effect on the first day of the seventh month after enactment, rather than immediately.
