This bill establishes the Massachusetts State Deepfake and Digital Provenance Task Force to evaluate the proliferation of deepfakes (realistic but false images, audio, or videos created using artificial intelligence) and digital content forgery (the fabrication or manipulation of digital content) in the state. The task force will assess the risks, legal implications, and impacts on civic engagement, and develop a plan to reduce the negative effects of these technologies. The task force will deliver a report to the legislature by January 1, 2025, with recommendations for policies, regulations, and legislative action related to deepfakes and digital content forgery.
