This bill authorizes the expanded use of tracking devices on fleeing motor vehicles in Minnesota. It amends the existing state law on tracking devices (Section 626A.35) by adding a new subdivision that creates an exception to the prohibition on using mobile tracking devices. The exception allows for the use of tracking devices on motor vehicles that are fleeing, as defined in the state's law on fleeing a peace officer (Section 609.487, subdivision 1). This change is intended to enhance public safety by enabling law enforcement to better track and apprehend drivers who are attempting to evade arrest.
