This bill provides homestead exemptions from Dawson County school district ad valorem taxes for educational purposes for certain senior citizens. It grants an exemption of up to $200,000 of the assessed value of a homestead for residents between the ages of 65 and 74 who have owned a homestead in Dawson County for at least 5 years, and an exemption of up to $300,000 for residents 75 and older who meet the same homeownership requirement. Additionally, the bill provides a $200,000 exemption for "senior citizens" (defined as residents who have owned a homestead in the county for at least 30 years) starting in 2026. The exemptions are subject to certain conditions, such as the homestead including less than 12 contiguous acres, and will sunset on December 31, 2044. The bill requires a referendum for voter approval before it can take effect.
