This bill amends the definition of "infant" in the Louisiana Children's Code's Safe Haven Law. It specifies that if an infant was admitted to a neonatal intensive care unit upon birth and has not been discharged from the hospital, the 60-day period for the infant to be considered an "infant" under the Safe Haven Law begins on the date of the infant's initial discharge from the hospital, rather than from the infant's birth. This change provides more flexibility for parents to safely surrender infants who remain hospitalized after birth.
