This bill, the Refrigerator Freedom Act, prohibits the Secretary of Energy from prescribing or enforcing energy conservation standards for refrigerators, refrigerator-freezers, and freezers unless the Secretary determines that the standards are technologically feasible, economically justified, and not likely to result in additional net costs to consumers. The bill also requires the Secretary to determine that any new or amended standards will result in significant energy savings before prescribing or enforcing them. The terms "covered product" and "energy conservation standard" used in the bill have the meanings given in the Energy Policy and Conservation Act.
