This bill, the Liberty in Laundry Act, prohibits the Secretary of Energy from prescribing or enforcing energy conservation standards for clothes washers that are not technologically feasible or economically justified. It also prohibits the Secretary from prescribing or enforcing any energy conservation standards that are likely to result in additional net costs to consumers. Additionally, the bill requires that any new or amended energy conservation standards for clothes washers must result in significant energy savings. The bill provides definitions for the terms "covered product" and "energy conservation standard" as used in the Energy Policy and Conservation Act.
