This bill, the Pride In Mental Health Act of 2024, aims to amend the Public Health Service Act to ensure protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBTQ+) youth and their families. It establishes a grant program for eligible entities to assess and improve LGBTQ+ youth mental health and substance use outcomes. The grants can be used to provide behavioral health and crisis intervention resources, offer cultural competency training for caregivers, develop and disseminate resources, collect data, and integrate behavioral health services in school systems, among other initiatives. The bill also limits the use of funds for conversion therapy, which is defined as any practice or treatment that seeks to change an individual's sexual orientation or gender identity. Additionally, the bill directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services to review and update reports on LGBTQ+ individuals, develop a federal survey to measure serious psychological distress and mental health among LGBTQ+ youth, and submit a report on mental health, mental health care, and cultural competency in mental health care for LGBTQ+ youth in foster care and other social services programs.
