This bill establishes the Task Force on Holistic and Effective Responses to Illicit Drug Use. The task force will review reports on approaches to address illicit drug use in Minnesota, develop a timeline for implementing policy changes, and make policy and funding recommendations to the legislature. The task force will include representatives from various stakeholder groups, such as the public defender's office, county attorneys, law enforcement, medical professionals, criminal legal reform organizations, and individuals with lived experience of drug use. The commissioner of public safety will provide support staff and administrative services for the task force. The task force must submit an initial report by February 15, 2025, and a final report by February 15, 2026. The bill also appropriates funds to the commissioner of public safety to support the task force.
