This bill establishes a Legislative Task Force on Guardianship to make recommendations for addressing concerns and gaps related to guardianships and less restrictive alternatives in Minnesota. The task force will have 23 members, including legislators, judges, individuals under guardianship, guardians, and representatives from various state agencies and advocacy groups. The task force is required to hold public hearings, identify standards of practice for guardians, explore alternatives to guardianship, and recommend policy options to promote less restrictive alternatives. The task force must submit a report with its findings and legislative recommendations by January 15, 2027, at which point the task force will expire. The bill also provides a one-time appropriation from the general fund to the Minnesota Council on Disability to administer the task force.
