The commission, consisting of five members with backgrounds in healthcare or health policy, will examine measures taken by nursing homes to ensure resident safety, the effectiveness of those measures, any increase in death rates due to COVID-19, and the effectiveness of current laws and regulations governing nursing home pandemic response. The commission will make recommendations for future legislation, rules, and regulations related to nursing home pandemic handling. The commission will submit its report and recommendations to the state government one year after its first meeting, at which point the provisions of the bill will be repealed.
