This bill allows the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners to grant temporary licenses to certain international medical graduates. To be eligible, the applicant must have a medical degree from an international program, be in good standing with their licensing country, have completed a residency or equivalent training, be a U.S. or Canadian citizen or legally entitled to work in the U.S., and have an offer of employment at a Louisiana hospital. These licensed international medical graduates can only provide services at the hiring hospital for the first two years of their license, after which they are no longer subject to this limitation. The bill also allows the Board to revoke a license if there is clear evidence the licensee violated medical safety, competency, or conduct standards.
