This bill amends the Civil Rights Law to require the Office of Court Administration, clerks, and other records custodians to develop policies and procedures to ensure that no identifying information or documentation related to name change actions or sex designation change actions is publicly visible or retrievable in any electronic database maintained by the State of New York or its subdivisions. The bill also provides for the immediate inaccessibility of such records to the public upon filing, regardless of whether a petitioner has made a request for privacy or a court has ordered sealing. Additionally, the bill requires the removal of any existing publicly accessible records related to name changes or sex designation changes within 90 days of the effective date of the law.
