This bill, the Lead-Safe Housing for Kids Act of 2024, amends the Lead-Based Paint Poisoning Prevention Act to establish additional procedures for families with children under the age of 6 living in certain covered housing, which includes properties with mortgage insurance, tenant-based rental assistance, or project-based federal housing assistance. The key provisions include: 1) Requiring owners of covered housing to conduct an initial risk assessment for lead-based paint hazards within 15 days of a family moving in or a physical inspection, and to control any identified hazards within 30 days; 2) Allowing families with young children to relocate on an emergency basis without penalty to housing constructed in 1978 or later or that has no lead-based paint hazards; and 3) Authorizing appropriations to carry out these amendments from fiscal years 2025 to 2029.
