This bill appropriates $315,000 from the natural resources fund to the Commissioner of Natural Resources for grants to school districts for accessible and inclusive school playgrounds. At least $100,000 of the appropriation is designated for specific school districts. The grant funds can be used to replace, repair, expand, or install playground equipment, create accessible routes to the playground, or install unitary surface material to expand accessibility. Grant recipients must have their playground plans previewed or reviewed by a certified playground safety inspector or Minnesota certified accessibility specialist, and must submit a report to the legislative committees with jurisdiction over education and environment and natural resources documenting the spending and identifying actions that furthered accessibility and inclusion.
