This bill requires health plans in Minnesota to cover the management and treatment of obesity, including intensive behavioral or lifestyle therapy, FDA-approved anti-obesity medications, and metabolic and bariatric surgery. It prohibits health plans from having more restrictive coverage criteria for anti-obesity medications than the FDA-approved indications and requires coverage to be the same as for any other illness or condition. The bill also amends the state's Medicaid program to cover obesity management and treatment in the same manner and requires the Department of Health to report annually on efforts to reduce and manage obesity, including prevalence, diagnosis rates, utilization of services, and health improvements.
