This bill, the Mobilizing and Enhancing Georgia's Options for Building Accountability, Resilience, and Independence Act (MEGOBARI Act), aims to support and defend democracy, human rights, and the rule of law in Georgia. It requires several reports, including on improper political influence and sanctions evasion in Georgia, Russian intelligence assets in Georgia, and the imposition of sanctions on key Georgian individuals involved in undermining democracy. The bill also establishes a democracy monitoring task force in Georgia and, upon certification of significant and sustained progress towards reinvigorating Georgia's democracy, directs the U.S. government to take various steps, such as negotiating a preferential trade regime, enhancing people-to-people contacts and visa liberalization, developing an economic development package, and providing security and defense equipment to Georgia.
