This Resolution honors the life and legacy of Cecilia Gentili, a prominent advocate, actress, and community member who passed away on February 6, 2024, at the age of 52. Originally from Argentina, Gentili became a dedicated champion for transgender people, sex workers, and the broader LGBTQIA+ community in New York. Her impactful work included roles at Apicha Community Health Center and GMHC (formerly Gay Men's Health Crisis), where she significantly expanded access to care and advocated for health initiatives. She also founded Trans Equity Consulting to advise organizations on equity issues and was a key figure in legislative victories such as the New York State Gender Expression and Discrimination Act and the repeal of the "Walking While Trans Ban," a law that disproportionately affected transgender women and women of color. Gentili was also a plaintiff in a successful lawsuit to protect transgender healthcare access under the Affordable Care Act and was actively involved with DecrimNY, an organization working to decriminalize sex work. Beyond her advocacy, she was a published author, co-organized the first all-trans music festival in New York City, created theater productions, and appeared in the television series "Pose," which shed light on LGBTQIA+ issues. This Resolution expresses the Legislative Body's sorrow at her passing and directs that a copy be sent to her family.
