This bill extends the statute of limitations for campaign finance violations. Under current law, any enforcement action brought by the Election Law Enforcement Commission (ELEC) for any violations of campaign finance laws is subject to a statute of limitations of two years following the occurrence of the alleged violation. Under this bill, the statute of limitations would be four years following the date of the election for which the alleged violation occurred. The new four-year statute of limitations will apply to any violations that take place after the enactment of this bill. This bill would enact one of the recommendations made by ELEC in its 2023 annual report.
