This bill amends the Michigan Mental Health Code by expanding the individuals who can file a petition for a second or continuing order of involuntary mental health treatment or assisted outpatient treatment. Specifically, the bill allows physicians, psychologists, and "qualified health professionals" (which includes psychiatric nurse practitioners and physician's assistants working with a psychiatrist) to file these petitions, in addition to hospital directors and agencies. The bill also requires these petitions to be accompanied by a clinical certificate executed by a physician, psychologist, or qualified health professional, and in most cases, evidence that the clinician discussed their findings and the treatment plan with a psychiatrist.
