This bill, the Bringing Real Accountability Via Enforcement in Burma Act (BRAVE Burma Act), proposes several key changes to the existing Burma Unified through Rigorous Military Accountability Act of 2022: 1. It extends the sunset provision of the existing act from 8 years to 10 years, allowing the sanctions and reporting requirements to remain in effect for a longer period. 2. It modifies the reporting requirement, mandating the President to determine annually for 7 years whether certain Burmese state-owned enterprises, Myanma Economic Bank, and foreign persons operating in the jet fuel sector meet the criteria for sanctions. 3. It directs the Secretary of the Treasury to instruct the U.S. Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund to limit any increase in Burma's shareholding if the country is under the rule of the State Administration Council, with a presidential waiver available for national interest reasons. 4. It establishes a United States Special Coordinator for Burmese Democracy within the State Department to coordinate sanctions policies, promote international efforts to impose and enforce sanctions, and engage with Burmese civil society and international stakeholders to support the restoration of civilian democratic rule in Burma.
