This bill, known as the GATE CRASHERS Act (Guarding and Administering Trespass Enforcement, Controlling Restricted Areas, and Stopping High-risk Encroachment Recidivism and Sabotage Act), amends Title 18 of the United States Code to establish a criminal penalty for unauthorized access to Department of Defense (DoD) facilities. Specifically, it makes it unlawful to enter any DoD property that has been clearly marked as closed or restricted without authorization. The penalties range from a fine and up to 180 days in prison for a first offense, to a fine and up to 10 years in prison for a third or subsequent offense, aimed at deterring and punishing trespassers who may pose a threat to restricted military areas.
