This bill amends Section 32-5-222 of the Alabama Code to further regulate the use of child passenger restraint systems in motor vehicles. The key provisions include: requiring children to use rear-facing car seats until age 2 or 35 pounds, forward-facing car seats until age 5 or 65 pounds, and booster seats until age 6 and meeting certain size requirements; recommending that children under 13 ride in the second or third row of the vehicle; increasing fines for violations, with some fines used to distribute child restraint system vouchers; and requiring police departments to maintain and report statistical information on traffic stops of minorities related to this law. The bill will take effect on October 1, 2025.
