This bill requires a permit to carry assault weapons in vehicles or on one's person, or to acquire such weapons. It defines "assault weapon" and establishes a permit application process and fees similar to the concealed carry permit system. The bill exempts certain federal, state, and local law enforcement officers, military personnel, and those with federal firearms licenses from the permitting requirement. The bill would become effective on October 1, 2025.
