This bill revises the uniform pay plan for Alabama's justices and judges. It amends Section 12-10B-1 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to set new initial salary levels for the chief justice of the Supreme Court, Supreme Court associate justices, appellate court judges, circuit judges, and district judges. The bill also provides for automatic 7.5% salary increases after 6, 12, and 18 years of service as a judge or justice. Additionally, the bill prohibits judges and justices in service on October 1, 2021, from having their compensation diminished, and it requires that circuit and district judges only receive compensation from the State Treasury, superseding any local laws providing salary supplements or expense allowances. The bill is set to become effective on June 1, 2025.
