This bill requires local boards of education in Alabama to pay their employees semi-monthly (twice a month) starting August 1, 2026, with one paycheck in arrears (meaning employees will receive their first paycheck on the 16th of the month for work completed during the first half of the month). Boards can opt out of this requirement by passing a written resolution within 60 days. The state Comptroller, Superintendent of Education, and State Board of Education are required to adopt policies to implement the semi-monthly pay plan, and the legislature intends for this change to not reduce any employee's annual compensation.
