This bill, known as the Guaranteeing Reliability through the Interconnection of Dispatchable Power Act or the GRID Power Act, directs the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to initiate a rulemaking to address the inefficiencies in the existing procedures for processing interconnection requests. The goal is to ensure that new dispatchable power projects, which are capable of quickly ramping up or shutting down to ensure grid reliability, can interconnect to the electric grid quickly, cost-effectively, and reliably. The bill authorizes transmission providers to submit proposals to FERC to adjust their interconnection queues to prioritize these dispatchable power projects, and requires them to demonstrate the need for such prioritization and how it will improve grid reliability or resilience. FERC must review and approve or deny these proposals within 60 days and issue final regulations to complete the rulemaking within 180 days. The regulations must be reviewed and updated every 5 years to ensure they remain effective and relevant to evolving grid reliability and resilience challenges.
