This bill requires the Department of Children and Families to develop an educational fact sheet on water safety, which must include information on reducing children's risk of drowning, the importance of water safety education and swimming lessons, proper use of flotation devices, and the significance of swimming in monitored areas. The fact sheet will be developed in consultation with water safety organizations like the American Red Cross and will be made available to all school districts and nonpublic schools. School districts will be required to annually distribute the fact sheet to parents and guardians, while nonpublic schools are encouraged but not mandated to do so. Additionally, the bill requires school districts to publish and maintain an online list of locations offering swimming lessons and water safety courses, including those at free or reduced prices. The list will be comprised of locations that voluntarily request inclusion and must be updated annually. Each school district must provide access to this list on their website. The bill will take effect 180 days after its enactment, giving schools and organizations time to prepare and implement the new requirements.
