This bill expands the training that law enforcement officers are required to receive to include identification of machine gun conversion devices. Under current law, the Police Training Commission is to require all law enforcement officers as a condition of continued employment or appointment as a law enforcement officer to receive periodic commission-approved continuing officer education training. The training is to be mandated or prescribed by the commission. Under this bill, the training required under current law is to include training regarding the identification of machine gun conversion devices and any other associated components. This bill implements recommendation # 6 made in the report "Illegal Firearms Use and Trends in New Jersey," issued in September 2024 by the New Jersey State Commission of Investigation (SCI).
