This bill modifies the Texas Transportation Code to expand specialty license plate options for military service members and recipients of specific military awards. The bill allows license plates to include multiple service-related emblems and permits the Texas Department of Transportation to consider design recommendations from eligible individuals. It introduces five new specialty license plate categories for recipients of distinguished military medals: the Texas Homeland Defense Service Medal, Texas Superior Service Medal, Lone Star Distinguished Service Medal, Texas Outstanding Service Medal, and Texas Medal of Merit. Each new specialty plate will feature the corresponding medal's emblem and the medal's name at the bottom of the plate. Additionally, the bill provides fee exemptions for the first registration period and subsequent renewals for these new specialty plates, as well as for certain existing military-related license plates. This legislation aims to honor and recognize military service members by providing more personalized license plate options that highlight their specific service achievements. The bill is set to take effect on September 1, 2025.
