This bill adds a new section to the Texas Transportation Code that allows for the creation of specialty license plates specifically for active licensed peace officers. The bill defines a "licensed peace officer" as someone who is an active licensed peace officer under Chapter 1701 of the Occupations Code. The Department of Motor Vehicles will be required to issue these specialty license plates, which must include the words "Licensed Peace Officer" and have the same design as existing law enforcement specialty plates. Notably, these specialty license plates will be issued at no cost to the eligible peace officers. The provisions of this bill will take effect on September 1, 2025, providing ample time for the Department of Motor Vehicles to prepare for implementation of the new license plate option.
