This bill allows small political subdivisions (those with 75,000 or fewer residents) that do not have a local newspaper to publish required public notices through alternative media methods. Specifically, these political subdivisions can satisfy legal notice requirements by publishing notices on their Internet website for at least two weeks and through other media such as social media, free newspapers, school newspapers, homeowners' association newsletters, utility bills, direct mailings, or digital newsletters. The website must ensure notices are searchable by subject matter and location, and the political subdivision must first hold a public meeting about using this alternative notice method. Additionally, the political subdivision must submit details about their alternative notice method to the Attorney General, who will then publish a list of jurisdictions using these alternative notice techniques. The bill aims to provide more flexible and accessible public notice options for smaller communities where traditional newspaper publication might be challenging or impossible. The provisions will take effect on September 1, 2025.
