The resolution highlights that professional counselors are the largest group of mental health providers in the state, with over 13,000 Certified School Counselors and 34,000 Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs) and LPC Associates. It emphasizes that counselors provide services across various settings, including educational institutions, mental health agencies, community organizations, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and private practices. By officially recognizing Counseling Awareness Month, the resolution aims to promote public understanding of counselors' essential contributions and their role in empowering people to address social-emotional needs and achieve personal goals. The designation will remain in effect for 10 years from the date the resolution is passed by the legislature, in accordance with Section 391.004(d) of the Government Code.
