This bill establishes a temporary Montana University System (MUS) Investigation Committee composed of eight legislators (four from the House of Representatives and four from the Senate, with at least two members from each chamber being from the minority party) to investigate civil rights violations and censorship within Montana's public universities and colleges. The committee will gather on-the-record testimony from students about their experiences with civil rights violations or censorship, and will produce findings and recommendations to be reported to various state and federal officials, including the President of the United States, U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Department of Education, and Montana state leadership. The committee is limited to meeting no more than three times and must complete its work by September 15, 2026, with the Legislative Services Division providing staff support.
