This bill modifies Montana's voter registration process by allowing individuals to choose a political party affiliation when registering to vote or updating their voter registration. The standard voter registration application form will now include options to select from several political parties (Democratic, Green, Libertarian, Republican) or choose "other party affiliation" or "prefer not to answer". Voters who are already registered can add a party affiliation at any time. The bill also updates related sections of election law to ensure that voter registration lists and precinct registers can include party affiliation information if a voter has chosen to provide it. These changes will give voters more flexibility in expressing their political party preference during the voter registration process, while maintaining the option to not disclose a party affiliation. The bill becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval.
