This bill amends the Code of Criminal Procedure to modify the sentencing guidelines for the crime of "false report of a crime" under Section 411a of the Michigan Penal Code. Specifically, it changes the felony classes and maximum sentence lengths for various forms of this offense, such as reducing the maximum sentence for a false report resulting in physical injury from 5 years to 4 years, and increasing the maximum sentence for a false report resulting in serious impairment of body function from 10 years to 15 years. The bill also adds a new subsection creating a Class C felony for a false report resulting in death, with a 15-year maximum sentence. The bill takes effect 90 days after enactment, but only if another related bill is also enacted into law.
